ABORTION

This is a "hot" topic and is bound to offend some.Since this is to be "what the Bible says",along with some facts and figures,so be it.For the purpose of this short article I will use the terms baby,instead of fetus and abortion instead of "choice".Isn't it odd how we tend to give our sins nicer sounding names.Destroying a fetus doesn't sound nearly as bad as killing a baby and "choice"sounds so much better than abortion.Let's also recognize abortion for what it really is.In 99.9% of the cases abortion is simply a method of birth control.

The Roe vs Wade act,legalizing abortion was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1973 .An internet search gives two different figures for the number of abortions performed,in America,since that time.One source gives 54,559,615 the other 48,589,993 abortions.Either number,of dead babies, is horrible. Both of the above totals are from the internet and the differences are explained by the fact that some states do not report abortions so the numbers from those states must be estimated.

God states,in several places,that he knows us before we are formed in the womb. Here is one example from Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 1:5) Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Here is another example from the Psalms.This one obviously covers "from the moment of conception".

(Psalm 139:13-16) For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

This quote from Exodus is interesting in that it is speaking of an unintentional miscarriage caused by a third party.The "mischief"spoken of in verse 23,and following,is the death,or serious injury,of the mother.

Exodus 21:22-24 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

Here is an example from Isaiah,again showing that God knows us while we are still in the womb.

Isaiah 49:1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

Next,we are shown that the unborn baby is mentally aware.The following is the account of Mary's meeting with Elizabeth.

Luke 1:41 And it came to pass,that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary,the babe leaped in her womb;and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.

Finally,All excuses are moot.If any place on earth should be safe it is the mothers womb.We have a lot to answer for.Over 1.2 million babies a year are killed by abortion in the US.As you can see,the holocaust with it's murder of six million Jews,as horrible and tragic as it was, pales in comparison to our own holocaust.Fifty million dead babies(2012),and counting.As a nation,we will be held accountable.

It would not be right to leave this subject without mentioning the following two things.If you are a man and have participated by suggesting an abortion,or paying for it,then you are as guilty as the woman.Fortunately we have a forgiving God.See the articles on "Salvation" and the "Luckiest Thief".
